Our Story
Norville & Dobinson Opticians was formed in 2020 following the merger of two long established independent opticians in Downend.
Norville Opticians had been serving the people of Downend for more than 30 years, and Adrian Dobinson Opticians for nearly 20 years. We decided that we would be a stronger independent practice if we worked together, and from this, Norville & Dobinson was created.
Since then, we have also incorporated the practice of Jonathan Best Opticians and, more recently, Dury & Tippett Opticians in Staple Hill following the retirement of Steve Dury & Helen Tippett. We have been very happy to welcome their patients to us.
Following the merger, we completed an extensive practice expansion and refit and have a lovely, spacious practice, with state of the art equipment and a great range of eyewear.
We can care for your eyes using the latest technology, with an eye exam tailored to you. Our wide range of spectacle frames means there is something to suit every face and every pocket. We have a range of other services – contact lenses, myopia management and dry eye care for example. We also have a dedicated audiology room allowing us to care for your hearing as well.
Our experienced staff have many years of service inDownend and have built strong, lasting relationships with our patients, many ofwhom we have known for years. When youcome and visit us, you can expect a warm welcome and a friendly, professionalservice.
We are always pleased to see long established clients,but also welcome new patients – both NHS and private.

Our three Optometrists have many years of experience in community practice behind them. Adrian and Denise have worked in the two separate Downend practices since they first opened, and now in the merged practice, and have looked after different generations of many families in the Downend area. Po has also been qualified for over 25 years and joined us more recently following the practice expansion.
Amy, and Will, our qualifiedDispensing Opticians, have extensive knowledge of spectacle frames and lensesand will be able to give the best advice to ensure that you choose thespectacles which are just right for you.
Our Optical Assistants are there to ensure you arewell looked after, and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
